About The People and teachers at Tara's Retreat
George started practicing yoga in early 1980 first with Rita Bancroft and later with Ruth White. in 1996 a teacher called Ginny Kempster asked if he would like to go on a Retreat with her tutor Monica Burton. At the end of the retreat Monica asked if George had considered doing teacher training - so in September 1997 he started training with the British Wheel of Yoga. In 1998 George covered his first class in Cheam, more classes followed it seemed that this was where he was destined to be. The teaching diploma was gained in 2003 by which time George was taking several classes. He teaches a mixture of styles all based on Hatha Yoga. He regularly attends workshops and training days to further his own development. Outside of Yoga his hobbies include canoeing, sailing, walking, cycling, swimming i.e. anything active and carpentry. Ambitions many & various including setting up his own Yoga Centre that can offer classes and therapies, courses and training.
George has a very healthy following in the Surrey area and is a gentle and inspiring teacher.
Lizzie Bicknell Yoga teacher
I have been teaching yoga since the 80s. I first studied with the Wheel and then FRYOG and have spent 20 years concentrating on Iyengar yoga. Having suffered back pain as a teenager I have developed my own style, concentrating on good alignment and spine improvement. Although reading the philosophy is interesting it is the very nature of working in the Yoga postures in detail that draws the mind into the present. By feeling each move and how it is affecting you personally you can learn a lot about your body and how to move safely. This helps the beginner and the more advanced. My technique helped me quickly recover full health after a bad skiing accident. You need not have done any Yoga before as I will guide you through each move. The more advanced can take the posture to the next stage. I am keen on how the philosophy can help in practical ways in the modern world.
If you are into Yoga then you cannot do without Lizzie's amazing take on the method and how it helps to align your body and increase your ability to do other forms of exercise
