Case Study - How I lost 10lbs in 5 weeks - and enjoyed every minute of it.
I like to enjoy life and so characteristically threw myself into season of goodwill over an extended Christmas and New Year break with enthusiastic vim and vigour. Naturally, I had indulged in the extra eating and drinking that most of us do at this time of year, despite the last week being at an holistic retreat!! By mid January all my clothes were feeling too tight. I had developed that horribly named and equally unattractive “muffin top” bulging over my waistbands. My energy was as low as my morale - and I knew something had to be done. I decided to practice what I preach and I chose someone to guide me through the unwelcome task of losing weight.
I discussed how I was feeling with my coach and we decided that the best approach for me would be by enjoying myself and using the least effort – and no stress!
So I found myself making choices that made sense to me. I started a dance class once a week – LeRoc or modern jive – I just spend the whole evening laughing and so much fun it doesn’t feel like exercise. I love food so I also ate whatever I wanted but only when I was actually physically hungry and I stopped when I was full. Eating when I was full had been my downfall in the past. Knowing myself, I put smaller amounts on my plate which was nearly always enough to satisfy my hunger. Having the support, encouragement and advice from a coach who knows what you are aiming for and who also knows how to guide and motivate you was the difference that made the difference.
I didn’t diet. I didn’t deprive or punish myself or set myself up to fail. I listened to what my body was telling me and did what my body needed. I became aware of what I really wanted and did not kid myself that I could do things when I knew I couldn’t or wouldn’t. I was helped along by my “buddy” with a big dollop of common sense.
5 weeks later (with no noticeable effort at all) I had not only lost the weight I had put on (and more) I also felt really energetic, positive and cheerful. Everyone started to comment on how good I was looking. How wonderful and what a turn around!

Penny is a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Master Practitioner and an Advanced Energy Meridian Therapist specialising in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). Her therapy practice, Breeze of Change is based in West Ewell, Surrey where she assists people in overcoming those things that are holding them back. She has helped many people gain a successful, happier, more fulfilled life. Penny had a successful corporate career with a science background prior to being a therapist and brings all those skills into her practice. She realised she wasn’t fulfilling her mission to help people and make a difference to them so started training in the therapeutic disciplines she has now become expert in. She strongly advocates educating people to be in control of their thoughts and emotions in any situation, so they can feel empowered and achieve more than they ever thought possible – as many of her clients are happy to pay testament to. Viv Wharton
Viv is a qualified Body Control Pilates teacher and was teaching in Surrey for 2 years. Her background was teaching Dance, Aerobics and Fitness before changing direction 10 years ago. She has now gone full circle and back to teaching exercise again, when during a difficult period in her life Pilates, Yoga and Relaxation helped her and changed her life. Her vision was to bring those benefits to others, so she consequently trained to teach Pilates and also gained a BSY certificate in Meditation.
Viv’s experience of the weight loss/diet industry started 15 yrs ago as a Rosemary Conley instructor, however although initially her clients were successful they invariably put the weight back on again and sometimes they gained more weight than they had started with. Viv realised that people wanting to lose weight needed a whole body and mind approach, so through her background of experience in the fitness and Sports nutrition industries plus her skills at teaching and encouraging people, she developed a course of Lifestyle classes which aimed at improving her clients self esteem, exercises to increase metabolism and as a trained Beautician and make up artist was able to teach people to make the best of themselves. These classes were extremely successful and Viv has always maintained an interest in helping her clients when they lose confidence through body image.
Now teaming up with Penny Rattle their combined skills have enabled them to develop the WeighLess4Life programme. Viv’s bodywork classes during the course will involve exercises suited to the individual and aimed at increasing metabolism. The exercises will not be difficult or tiring, it is not Aerobic work but a combination of Pilates and Yoga and will increase muscle tone, improve posture and confidence and assist in losing weight. Once the weight has been lost, providing the individual adheres to the programme and with continued support from Viv and Penny the weight will stabilise.

This price does notinclude the flights. Flights must be booked by you for yourself. The return transfer will be arriving at Murcia airport at _________________ on Friday 7th November 08. You will also need to arrange your own travel insurance.

Tara’s Retreat
Tara's Retreat is a completely secluded house, surrounded by whitewashed walls and Bougainvillea and is set in the pretty and typical Murcian village of La Magdalena in South East Spain. The house is fully air conditioned with large swimming pool and hot tub. There is a mirrored studio for exercise inside and plenty of space outside too with a pretty garden. The house is comfortable with 5 en-suite bedrooms.
The village is in the countryside and is surrounded by almond, orange and lemon trees and grazing goats and sheep. The Spanish here live simply and quietly with a sense of relaxation and peace amongst the tranquil hills and mountains. There are many beautiful areas in Murcia and nearby is El Canar where we will have our picnic. El Canar is a valley surrounded by mountains with many caves around. It is also a bird Sanctuary.
Tara’s Retreat is surrounded by mountains and is 15 minutes from unspoilt and protected beaches, 10 minutes from Cartagena, which is a beautiful cosmopolitan City with interesting architecture, lots of history, particularly around the lovely Port where cruise ships regularly stop off. 25 minutes through the mountains is the port of Mazarron, where locals and visitors alike sit along the promenade enjoying lunch, looking out to sea from one of the many seaside restaurants.
Poem about Tara’s Retreat
I visited Tara’s Retreat for the first time in January 08. I was so moved by the place, its location & the lovely people, that I was inspired to write a poem in Murcia airport on the way home. I am not a poet but it expresses how I feel about the place and may give you a little bit of an insight into what a magical retreat it is. I hope you will feel the same about it when you visit.

Pink mountains, hauntingly soldier-like, protecting the horizon
Surrounding us – craggy and steep, undulating and soft
Magically comforting
Valleys between – verdant and lush, vivid greens and sparkling yellows
Orchards of almond trees with blossom of pastel pink and white shimmering in the light
Birds singing their songs of summer and sun and flying on the wind
Good friends and new friends laughing and sharing
